19 Jul Headline Swag at Reasons Festival
We are taking a closer look at our headline acts this year at one of our favourite yearly events Reasons Festival located in Coronation park over looking the ocean in the fine Isle of Jersey!
Roni Size is a British record producer and DJ, who came to prominence in 1997 as the founder and leader of Reprazent, a drum and bass collective. That year they won the Mercury Prize for their album New Forms!
Roni Size is the son of Jamaican immigrants, he grew up in the Bristol suburb of St. Andrews. He cites reggae as one of his early influences. He was expelled from school at the age of 16 and started attending house parties run by Bristol sound system The Wild Bunch (a predecessor of Massive Attack). Bristol at this point had a huge underground scene. He learned the basics about music production at his local youth club, the Sefton Park basement project, which provided record players, a mixing desk, drum machines and samplers. He worked with his brother’s comprehensive collection of Studio One records and later set up a home studio, buying a sampler.
Roni has a unique style and has been spotted fashioning suede and leather jackets. If we were to describe his style we would say he has urban street jazz seeping through his threads. Roni is definitely a cool blues an dance vibrant male dominating in his field!
Gerry Crosbie is 33 years old and known professionally as Gerry Cinnamon, is a Scottish singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist. He sings in the local accent and uses ‘brutally honest’ lyrics! Which we LOVE!
Crosbie was raised in a residential area of the Castlemilk district of Glasgow. He has stated that as a child he listened to his mother’s music cassettes including albums by The Rolling Stones, Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles. He has also stated that he was a fan of Oasis and has a particular admiration for the work of Bob Dylan.
I think that all these influences has impacted on his mod style too. From the top button of his gingham Fred Perry shirt done up to the baker boy camp this guy has serious swag and bags of style he is one we CAN NOT WAIT FOR!! Mon the JOCKS!!
Alexander Paul Coe AKA SASHA is a British DJ, record producer and Grammy Award nominee. He was voted World No. 1 DJ in 2000 in a poll conducted by DJ Magazine. He is a four-time International Dance Music Awards winner and four-time DJ Awards winner
Sasha began his career playing acid house dance music in the late 1980s. He partnered with fellow DJ John Digweed in 1993, touring internationally and producing a series of mixes (compilations of other artists’ work played in a continuous fashion).
Sasha has remixed tracks for artists such as Madonna, The Chemical Brothers and Hot Chip. Sasha’s remixing and production often combine electronic music genres, making it difficult for critics to pinpoint his musical style and also hard to pin point his personal style also. Alexander seems to be laid back in his fashion choices but rather choosing comfort and letting himself express himself through his music.
Marcia from The Skints
Well what can we say about Marcia!! We love Marcia and her style we met her backstage at the Weekender festival in Jersey. We offered her a gift of a FRNCH tulle netted skirt and a few weeks later at a gig in Paris she wore it and posted on her social media. We love that! Girls supporting girls!! Whoop Marcia!
We would describe Marcia’s style as casual, chic, cool, urban, relaxed and absolutely effortlessly beautiful! We love the band she is in “The Skints” and cant wait to vibe along! The Skints are a band from London described by Clash Music as “the torchbearers for modern British reggae music.”
With a sound that has been described as “music from Jamaica in a London style”, The Skints mix reggae, punk, ska, dancehall, soul, grime and hip hop, touring extensively across the UK, Europe and the United States.
