Style Spot – Rock en Seine
The French festival Rock en Seine was born in 2003. Today, Rock en Seine is one of the biggest festivals in France and among the important musical events in Europe. It happens every year on the last week-end of August, in a wonderful park just outside Paris.
Every year, the festival invites the most exciting pop and rock bands, from big stars to new talents. Five scenes are arranged in a green French garden, where the audience can discover the actuality of rock, power pop, electro, folk and see exhibitions about rock.
This years line up consisted of The Chemical Brothers, The Libertines, Kasabian, Alt J, The Offspring, John Butler Trio, Jamie XX, Hot Chip, Jungle, Franz Ferdinand, Stereophonics, Kate Tempest, The Maccabees, Years and Years, Wolf Alice, Catfish and the battlement and many more.
There were a lot of Brits at the festival making it very easy to get there on the Euro train from London to Paris. It was a very well organised festival with toilet roll still available on day three!! Also when it had rained and inevitably got muddy the organisers put straw on top to ensure safe crossings. The festival vibe was less messy and more chic.
There is an option to camp or stay in a hotel closer to Paris central which is what we did, which was a 25 min commute. It was relaxed and no queuing to get in to the festival. I would highly recommend this festival, especially to those who are over the carnage and struggle of other festivals. Tres chic boutique Parisian festival.
Katy Pierce 32
Katy stated she followed a few people on Instagram like @audreylombard and like that she uses the same pieces and mixes it up super well and that’s awesome. Katy mixed the black lace bra-let with high waisted wet look leggings with chelsea boot wellies for an alternative style to the traditional wellington boot a staple amongst festival goers. Finished with an aztec tribal printed kimono and another festival favourite the bum-bag. Accessorised with silver jewellery with turquoise stone to compliment the colours in the bum-bag.
Tim and Audrey 25 & 27
Tim is Australian and Audrey is from Switzerland yet they travel a lot so they are inspired from the countries we visit. I absolutely love a “coolple” – a cool couple. There is a whole brand dedicated to them “Koolples” which is very popular in both London and Paris. Audrey’s total black out dress in crepe material, drawn in at the waist to flatter the figure and a knee length split and biker boots. Tim was simple yet effectively complimenting Audrey in black turned up skinny jeans and round neck black tee with longer sleeves with chunky brown boots. Both top off look with round rimmed sunglasses
Maximilien Blond 18
I loved Max’s laid back summer style. Max reminded me of a character from Bill and Ted’s awesome adventure, which is totally nailing the current throwback trend from the 90s. To a transitional trend throughout the years has been the staple converse, cut off Levis vintage shorts baggy tee and the khaki beanie hat. I would describe Max’s style would have to be 90s skater.
Lauren Brady 27
When I asked Lauren who inspired her fashion wise she said Lola Kirke who is an actress in “Gone Girl” and her cousin is Alice Dellal, a favourite of mine. Lauren’s deep green floral jumpsuit was perfect for the festival’s unsure weather, clinched in waist with a thin belt and chestnut ankle boots. Teamed with delicate and feminine jewellery and huge vintage style sunglasses.
Abi Bass 26
I spotted Abi’s mermaid like purple hair and body art coming through the crowd and as both I and Shane Meadows (director from This is England) are crushing on the 90s. Abi’s grunge 90s look is head to toe from her Vans shoes to denim short turn-ups, plaid shirt tied around her waist and heather grey halter neck top. Accessorised withe a simple chocker and sunglasses.
Clélia Stevenard & Arnaud 20 & 26
As I have said before I love a good “coolple” Clelia and Arnaud exuded cool. From Arnaud’s relaxed nu-wave-rock chicness with his 80s vintage style buttoned up shirt to turn up jeans. Clelia is a very beautiful girl with style to match. From her oversized black and white funky cross print blazer to black peddle pusher chino style pants and grey jelly shoes topped off with an off black fedora hat. A natural yet stylish look.
Kerry Godfray 28
It is always great to spot a fellow brit whilst at a festival abroad, especially as the communication is easy. Kerry and her friends all looked like they were having a great time. I really liked Kerry’s oversized long-sleeved Stussy top, another 90s brand making a comeback just like Fila and Ellesse. Teamed with old school Samba Adidas trainers. Kerry gives this outfit a 90s grunge feel with th aqua marine hair colour and piercing. A strong and current look.
Armelle 33
I really loved Armelle’s bohemian look. I don’t think you can tell if it is high end or bargain brand. The cuts and layering to this outfit is intriguing and alluring. I love the black buckle and strapped ankle boots, the split detail in the skirt and the deep navy fedora hat and side plait. The look and style was vey boho, stevie nicks, festival feel.
Orbaranes 20
Orbaranes looked naturally youthful and stylish with very minimal effort, which is the Parisian way. From the un styled festival waved hair and fresh look face to the statement vintage Adidas oversized jumper , white denim hot pant shorts and lace up black boots. A very off duty model festival look.
Ailinh 29
Ailinh was very stylish and chic yet crossing a few style genres I felt the pleated shin length diagonal colour blocked skirt felt preppy or geek chic, yet the shape of the white vest top was almost a rock style cut, with round framed glasses and blue dyed hair had an undertone of grunge. Either way the eclectic mix was pulled together perfectly and totally suited Ailinh.
Akanksha Sharma 24
Akanksha is a fashion designer from Delhi and I think you can tell she has unique style. I spotted Akanksha from quite a walk away she looked very cool yet very simple and comfortable. I loved her hair style it gives a new spin on the 90s throwback that is massive right now. Akanksha made the dress she was wearing, the V front and back, wide necked and longer length sleeves are flattering to Akanksha figure. Akanksha reminded me of Bjork from Delhi, total 90s recall!
